Dog of the Month June Edition – Bugg!

Dental Cleaning For Dogs

Dog of the month: the Pug and Boston Terrier mix, a.k.a Bugg! These cute little pups are the perfect choice for the toasty month of June.

Although their exact origins are unclear, the Bugg has grown quickly in popularity amongst designer dog breed enthusiasts; and it makes sense! They are absolutely adorable and their playful and loving personalities make them an excellent dog for most first time dog owners.
There is no exact record of when or why they were bred, but breeders generally agree that they are a more recent creation in the designer dog arena. Maybe they started crossing Pugs and Boston Terriers because they wanted to create a very small lap-dog, that combines the best characteristics of both breeds (petguide.com).
A hybrid’s appearance can be a bit difficult to predict, but breeders of Bugg’s usually aim for their appearance to be more to that of the Pug’s then to the Boston Terrier. Buggs usually have drooping ears, curly tails and soft, straight coats. But not always! During the breeding process, some breeders breed multi-generation crosses. So they may not be a 50/50 split, and this may have an effect of some of their features (petguide.com). As seen below!
A little bit about the Buggs temperament. The personality of both the Boston Terrier and the Pug are quite similar, so it is not difficult to read the Bugg’s mind or mood, which is sometimes difficult to see in other crossbreeds. These guys are comical at times and are genuinely affectionate and fully focused on their people-parents. The protective nature of the Boston Terrier can make Bugg’s slightly overprotective - they love their families! Because of this, it’s important to start training and socializing them when they are still little beans! They love spending maximum allowed time with their favorite people. Sleeping or snuggling in your lap can be a favorite past-time when they are resting. They also love kids and pretty much anything that will play with them, because they have lots of energy to spare (101dogbreeds.com).
Even though these pups are smaller in size, they have big appetites! Full grown, they weigh approximately 25 pounds but they love as much food as they can get their paws on! (wagwalking.com) Which means it’s important to monitor how much these guys eat. They can get a little chunky - and quick! (101dogbreeds.com).
